Disgraced Olympian RYAN LOCHTE is reportedly planning to try and redeem himself following his Rio robbery controversy by appearing in the next season of DANCING WITH THE STARS.

The U.S. athlete had entered talks with producers of the ballroom dancing show before flying out to Rio de Janiero, Brazil to compete in the Summer Olympics, where he won gold in the men’s 4x100m swimming freestyle relay alongside teammate Michael Phelps.

However, his latest Olympic achievement was overshadowed after he claimed he and his fellow Team USA swimmers Jack Conger, Jimmy Feigen and Gunnar Bentz had been robbed at gunpoint by a group of men dressed as police officers during a night out in Rio.

Lochte was subsequently forced to admit he had been highly-intoxicated during the incident at a gas station and “over-exaggerated” parts of the story, after surveillance footage actually showed the swimmers vandalising the public bathroom and being confronted by security guards, demanding payment for the damage.

He has since been dropped by one of his biggest sponsors, swimwear brand Speedo, but he is now hoping to dance his way to redemption by competing on Dancing with the Stars, USA Today reports.

The celebrities taking part in the show’s upcoming season 23 will be officially unveiled on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Tuesday (30Aug16).
