Ronan Keating ENVIES One Direction Lifestyle

Singer RONAN KEATING is jealous of ONE DIRECTION because he wasted his own time as a boyband heartthrob.

Ronan was thrust into the spotlight as a teenager in the early 1990s as his band Boyzone enjoyed a succession of hits in their native Ireland and the U.K.

However, the Picture Of You singer insists the pressure of pop stardom meant that unlike his modern day counterparts, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan, he didn’t take advantage of his fame to enjoy himself.

“I was 16 and I should have been climbing trees and riding my bike, but I was flying first-class to Hong Kong – and I was expected to know what I was doing there,” he tells Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper.

“But don’t get me wrong, it was brilliant. It was amazing. I just wish I’d enjoyed it more. I didn’t. I honestly didn’t. I was too busy trying to be the perfect pop star or making sure I said all the right things.

“I look at the lads from One Direction now and I’m envious of them. They’re having a great time. I was a 16-year-old kid with a 30 year-old head on my shoulders. I should have been wild, and having a great time, and being a pop star.”

After five years of stardom, the four remaining members of One Direction announced in 2015 that they would be temporarily going their separate ways and taking a hiatus from the band to pursue their own projects this year (16).

Zayn Malik left the group in March last year (15) and is now pursuing a solo career.
