MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE have teased fans about a possible reunion for the 10th anniversary of their rock opera WELCOME TO THE BLACK PARADE.

The band, fronted by Gerard Way, split in 2013 after 12 years together, but on Wednesday (20Jul16), the musicians hinted at some big news by sharing a cryptic new video on their newly-revamped website.

The footage featured a white flag bearing the letter ‘X’ flying in the wind, and was soundtracked by the titular track of their album Welcome to the Black Parade, which was released in October, 2006.

The mysterious video clip closes with the date “9/23/16” flashed across the screen, suggesting the upcoming surprise may tie in to the album’s anniversary.

The reunion speculation comes two years after singer Gerard, who has since embarked on a solo career, came clean about the real reason for the band’s break-up, admitting he needed to step away from the group to tackle his substance abuse issues once and for all for the sake of his daughter, Bandit, now seven.

In a candid interview with NME in 2014, Way, who struggled with alcoholism and an addiction to prescription drugs during his 20s, revealed he relapsed shortly after the release of the group’s final album in 2010, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

“I relapsed, not into drugs but booze…,” he confessed. “I was self-medicating again to get through, and I’d forgotten how miserable that made me. It took me to the dark place again, but there was more at stake this time.

“I started to face the hypothetical reality of Bandit not having a father. I started taking that seriously, thinking, ‘I want her to have a dad. A guy that’s present. Because one way or another – either by death or by asylum, she’s gonna be fatherless if I keep this up’… (I decided) break the band or break me.”

Bandit is Way’s only child with wife Lyn-Z, bassist for Mindless Self Indulgence, who he wed in 2007.
