MEAGAN GOOD went through a self-destructive phase to escape her child actress past.
The Think Like a Man star partied a lot as a young woman because she wanted to turn attention away from people’s perception of her past.
“As a child actress, you already feel that people are trying to manipulate your past,” she says on an episode of Unsung Hollywood. “So the partying for me was a way to distract myself, it was self-destructive. I was out a lot, I drank a lot, I was wild, I was crazy.”
As a result of her hard partying, Meagan also developed a reputation as a serial dater and was linked to a number of famous men. However, she insists most of the rumours were not true.
“I wasn’t dating Jamie Foxx,” she continues. “I wasn’t dating Lil Wayne. I wasn’t dating Tyrese (Gibson). However, there were other people that I dated that nobody knows about. The guys that I dated for a consistent amount of time – those were good relationships in my 20s. Those were relationships that I dated two to three years, and they were learning experiences and it was awesome.”
The 35-year-old has been married to DeVon Franklin since 2012 and last year (15) the couple wrote a relationship self-help book, titled The Wait, and opened up about its decision to wait a year before consummating its relationship.
“I speak to young women because I think a lot of the images that are out there now teach women that they need to be a certain kind of way in order to get attention or be considered valuable…,” she said last year. “I do encourage them to wait but I’m not preachy or religious. I feel like if you have a better sense of self and you love yourself the right person will wait for you…
“For my marriage… there was a solid, ‘I could spend the rest of my life with you and you could be my partner on this entire journey – and I respect you and I love you’ – and then there’s the icing on the cake,” she continued.
