Me Before You Reduces Emilia Clarke’s Friends To TEARS

EMILIA CLARKE is delighted she is making her friends cry with her new movie ME BEFORE YOU.

Emilia Clarke

The Game of Thrones actress plays Louisa Clark, who takes care of a young paralysed man Will Traynor, played by Sam Claflin, as he struggles to come to terms with his new life, in the upcoming romance drama, which is based on the 2012 Jojo Moyes novel of the same name.

The tearjerker is set to have audiences reaching for their tissues, so Emilia was happy when she screened the film for her friends and they were reduced to tears as it meant the movie has achieved its purpose.

“I haven’t done a very sad movie before,” she told “And now I’ve had friends that have seen the movie, are in tears, crying and I’m like, ‘Yay, good, I’m glad, I’m so happy that I’ve made you break down in tears.’

“That’s a good sign. We are affecting people! But what a bizarre concept? I wouldn’t normally wish for people to cry.”

Director Thea Sharrock has also been surprised by fans’ emotional reaction to the trailer, with some even posting videos of them getting upset as they watch it for the first time.

“I wasn’t expecting that,” Thea shared. “The majority of them are fans of the book so they were really hyping up how much they have been waiting for this. And they come in all languages. It’s even better when you get an Italian and you don’t speak Italian well enough to really get what she’s saying, but you still kinda get what she is saying.”

The Hunger Games star Sam also told fans on Instagram how he felt about the movie, writing, “Genuinely so excited for everyone to see this. Something I’m so proud of.”

Me Before You is released in U.S. and U.K. cinemas on 3 June (16).
