Lady Gaga And Sam Smith Land Early Golden Globe Nominations

Pop stars LADY GAGA and SAM SMITH were among the early nominees when the contenders for the 2016 Golden Globe Awards were announced on Thursday (10Dec15).

The Poker Face singer has received a nod for Best Actress in a Mini-series or TV Movie for her starring role in TV series American Horror Story: Hotel, and she will go up against actresses including Kirsten Dunst (Fargo), Felicity Huffman (American Crime) and Queen Latifah (Bessie).

Although it received mixed reviews upon release, Sam Smith’s James Bond theme Writing’s on the Wall, which featured in Spectre, has been nominated for Best Original Song.

It will compete against Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do from Fifty Shades of Grey, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s See You Again from Furious 7 and One Kind of Love from Beach Boys movie Love & Mercy.

The first wave of nominations were announced by Angela Bassett, Chloe Grace Moretz, Dennis Quaid, and America Ferrera at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday (10Dec15).

The 73rd annual Golden Globes will be held at the same hotel on 10 January (16). Comedian Ricky Gervais returns for his fourth stint as host.
