FRANCES BEAN COBAIN and her estranged husband Isaiah Silva are reportedly locked in a court battle over her famous father Kurt’s guitar.

Ownership of the guitar is allegedly at the centre of the couple’s divorce, as Frances denies she gave Isaiah the guitar as a wedding present, reports website TMZ.

The 23-year-old daughter of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love secretly tied the knot with musician Silva, 31, in 2014, after they dated for five years, but the former couple announced their split in March (16).

The pair are battling over ownership of Cobain’s acoustic-electric Martin D-18E, one of just 300 made, which Courtney confirmed to TMZ was the last guitar Cobain played before he committed suicide in 1994 at the age of 27. The musician struggled with heroin addiction, chronic health problems and depression before his death.

Courtney told TMZ: “It’s not his, it’s a treasured heirloom of the family’s, it’s not his to take.” When asked if Frances gave it to her ex as a gift, she added: “No, she never planned on doing that… it’s a treasured heirloom.” And in a parting shot to her former son-in-law, she added: “I’m glad she’s out of this dangerous and toxic relationship.”

The Nirvana star famously used the unique guitar, which is reportedly worth millions, during the band’s iconic 1993 MTV Unplugged performance. Cobain, who was left-handed, had the bridge and nut replaced so he could play it upside down.

Frances is the sole heir to the late rocker’s estate, which has been valued at a reported $450 million (£281 million).

In legal documents obtained by the website, Frances has reportedly indicated she is open to paying her estranged husband spousal support, but the fortune left to the visual artist by her dad’s estate and the guitar is off limits.
