Campaigners Petition AGAINST Adam Lambert’s Singapore Show

Campaigners have launched a petition calling for ADAM LAMBERT to be axed from the line-up of a New Year’s Eve (31Dec15) show in Singapore.

The openly gay glam rocker is on the bill for the countdown concert in Marina Bay, but an online campaign has been launched on calling for his removal because of his provocative onstage antics.

Adam Lambert

The petition reads, “His track record displays a flagrant disregard for the sensitivities of his audience… Singaporeans can enjoy a good show without their consciences being affronted by lewd acts in the name of entertainment. In addition, a simple online search would reveal that he is well-known for his active promotion of a highly sexualized lifestyle and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) rights, both of which are contrary to mainstream Singaporean values.

“Adam Lambert is an inappropriate choice and reflects a lack of judgment that could turn an otherwise dignified family-friendly event into a situation that is offensive and potentially divisive.”

The petition had garnered than 14,000 signatures as WENN went to press.

Bosses at TV company MediaCorp, who organise and televise the show, backed the former American Idol star in a statement: “(The show) will be suitable for family audiences and conform with broadcast regulations.”

Adam’s fans have since launched an opposing petition urging organisers to keep the singer on the bill, and to “denounce and condemn” the removal campaign.

A message posted alongside the secondary petition reads, “Please allow Adam Lambert to perform in Countdown 2016 to demonstrate to the whole world that Singapore is a country that shuns discrimination and promotes diverse inclusive points of view.”

The second petition had gained more than 13,000 signatures as WENN went to press.
